A bus that says Independent School Dist. 199 drives in the falling snow

We want students to be in school learning whenever possible. However, there are times when severe winter weather or dangerous driving conditions make it necessary to change the school schedule. We attend National Weather Service webinars and consult with Facilities and Grounds staff, city staff, and surrounding school districts to best understand weather conditions and related factors that could affect our schools.

If we are considering a change in the schedule, the options are:

  • delay the start of school by two hours to allow time for weather and driving conditions to improve (Buses and other regular school transportation pick up students two hours later than usual) OR
  • cancel school for the day.

During the first two canceled days: There will be no school expectations for students to continue their learning from home. If school is canceled a third time or more, the school district will announce closure-related Flex Learning Days. Students in preschool through grade 12 complete school work from home on closure-related Flex Learning Days to help keep the school year on track.

Whenever there is a schedule change, we will send out a call, text, and email to families and staff. Information will also be posted on the district website (www.isd199.org), our social media accounts, and local television and radio stations. Families can check their emergency contact information and preferences in Infinite Campus.
