Title 1

Title 1 is a federally funded program that provides extra academic support to students in the areas of reading and/or math. At Pine Bend, we follow the “Read Well By 3rd Grade” initiative (as part of the literacy plan that our district is following). Therefore, we target children in grades kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd for reading support. We are also able to work with 3rd-grade groups.

Extra Academic Support

Reading benchmark assessments are given to all the students at Pine Bend three times a year. Based on results and teacher input, students may qualify for additional help. Groups are formed and students receive small group instruction during the regular school day. These groups are fluid and end with the completion of each school year. We currently implement a research-based intervention program developed at the University of Minnesota called PRESS.

Parents have the right to request information about a teacher's professional qualifications. If you are interested in obtaining educational history or other qualifications, please contact Human Resources at 651-306-7823.

Parent Involvement

Pine Bend values parent involvement and we encourage families to connect with staff during Family Connections, conferences, and family events.

Inver Grove Heights Schools and Pine Bend have Parent Involvement Plans. The Parent Involvement Plan is reviewed yearly with Title 1 staff and parents.

Conferences

Parents are notified with a letter and asked to sign a compact agreeing to work with their child/children. Teachers and students sign these as well. Together we work to help children succeed. Title 1 teachers/paraprofessionals meet with parents during fall and winter conferences to connect and refer to these compacts.
